Ferris State Hockey Begins Skill and Conditioning Sessions
The 2010-11 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team conducted its first skill development and conditioning session this Thursday (Sept. 16) at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.
The Bulldogs are allowed two sessions per week leading up to their first official practice on Saturday, Oct. 2, before hosting Ontario Institute of Technology in a 7:05 p.m. (EDT) exhibition contest at the Ewigleben Ice Arena.
Ferris State is allowed a total of eight hours per week per National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules to be spent with skill development along with strength and conditioning.
FSU, under the direction of 19th-year head coach Bob Daniels, will officially begin the 2010-11 season on the road as the Bulldogs square off against the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers on Oct. 7-8 in Huntsville, Ala. Opening faceoff for both games of the season-opening series are set for 8:05 p.m. (EDT). Ferris State opens the home portion of its season slate the following weekend, Oct. 15-16, hosting the St. Lawrence Saints in Big Rapids. Both outings will get underway at 7:05 p.m. (EDT).
The Bulldogs' Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) opener is Oct. 22-23 against the Ohio State Buckeyes in Big Rapids. The puck will drop for both home encounters at 7:05 p.m. (EDT).
Ferris State is coming off a highly-successful 2009-10 season in which the Bulldogs registered a 21-13-6 overall record, which included a third-place 13-9-6-4 mark (49 league points) in the CCHA. The 21 victories represented a tie for the fourth most single-season victories in the program's history.
