"Countdown To Faceoff" Series Starts This Monday

A "Countdown To Faceoff" series profiling the 2010-11 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team will debut this Monday, Sept. 27, at www.ferrisstatebulldogs.com with a positional preview report on the 2010-11 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team.

The four-part series, which is being produced by the FSU Athletics Communications Office, will highlight the 2010-11 Bulldogs team in four specific areas - defensemen, goaltenders, forwards, and specialty teams.

This Monday's (Sept. 27) premiere article will focus on the defensemen followed by the goaltending and forward position previews on Tuesday, Sept. 28, and Thursday, Sept. 30, respectively.  The series concludes next Friday, Oct. 1, with a look at the power-play and penalty-kill units for the Bulldogs, who are led by 19th-year head coach Bob Daniels

Ferris State will open its 32nd season of intercollegiate competition as a NCAA Division I program next Saturday, Oct. 2, with an exhibition contest versus Ontario Institute of Technology in Big Rapids, Mich.  A 7:05 p.m. (EDT) start is slated for the encounter at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena.

The 2010-11 season officially gets underway the following week, Oct. 7-8, as the Bulldogs visit Alabama-Huntsville for a two-game non-league series in Huntsville, Ala.  Both outings are 8:05 p.m. (EDT) opening faceoffs.  FSU's home-opening series will take place the following weekend, Oct. 15-16, against St. Lawrence as the puck drops for both non-conference contests at 7:05 p.m. (EDT).

The Bulldogs begin Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) action Oct. 22-23 when the Ohio State Buckeyes come to Big Rapids for a two-game set.  A 7:05 p.m. (EDT) start time is scheduled for the weekend matchups.

Ferris State is coming off a 21-13-6 overall record for the 2009-10 season in which the Bulldogs registered a third-place 13-9-6-4 mark in the CCHA.  The 21 wins represented a tie for the fourth-highest single-season victories total in the program's history.
