Two nationally-ranked Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) teams with five-game unbeaten streaks will square off on the ice this weekend (Feb. 18-19) as the 20th-ranked Ferris State University men's ice hockey team hosts the eighth-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a two-game series at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

This weekend's home series will be broadcast live on the Bulldog Sports Network at 1460 AM and 107.7 FM as Dominic Hennig calls the action with Dan Kowalski providing game analysis. Ferris State, which is 16-12-4 overall with a fifth-place 11-10-3-2 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) record, has won its last five outings to date. The Bulldogs swept Alabama-Huntsville this past weekend (Feb. 11-12) in a home non-league series while improving their home record to 9-4-3. The sweep earned Ferris State a 20th-place national ranking in this week's (Feb. 14) U.S. College Hockey Online.com poll while the Bulldogs received votes in Inside College Hockey.com's poll. Leading the way for FSU this season are a pair of senior Hobey Baker Memorial Award candidates in goaltender Pat Nagle and defenseman Zach Redmond. Nagle ranks third among the national statistical leaders in goals-against average (1.90), 10th in save percentage (.925), and 24th in winning percentage (.600) while Redmond is listed tied for 23rd in game-winning goals (three). Senior left wing Mike Embach leads the nation in short-handed lamplighters with four, which included a pair in last Saturday's (Feb. 12) 5-1 decision over Alabama-Huntsville. Senior Scott Wietecha was chosen as this week's (Feb. 14) CCHA Defenseman of the Week for his noteworthy performance in last weekend's (Feb. 11-12) series sweep. The Bulldogs presently are tied for top national honors in scoring defense (2.06 gpg.) and are listed in a 45th-place tie for scoring offense (2.41 gpg.).
Notre Dame is 18-9-5 overall with a 15-6-3-2 (1st place-50 pts.) CCHA mark this campaign after posting 2-1 and 5-1 victories over Bowling Green State last weekend (Feb. 11-12) at UND's Joyce Center in Notre Dame, Ind. The Fighting Irish, who are midst a five-game (3-0-2) unbeaten streak and are 6-5-2 in away encounters this season, are ranked eighth nationally this week (Feb. 14) by USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine, ninth in the U.S. College Hockey Online.com poll, and 12th in Inside College Hockey.com's poll. Notre Dame features 15 skaters with double-digit points totals, led by led by freshmen forwards T.J. Tynan (19-24=43) and Anders Lee (19-18=37). Tynan ranks 10th nationally in points per game (1.34 ppg.) while Lee is tied for 29th place. Both are tied for 15th place in goals per game (0.59 gpg.). Sophomore goaltender Mike Johnson (14-7-4, 2.57 GAA, .904sv%) ranks 33rd in goals-against average and 50th in save percentage among the national leaders. Nationally, Notre Dame is sixth in scoring offense (3.66 gpg.) and 25th in scoring defense (2.72 gpg.).
