For the fourth time this season, a pair of in-state teams square off this Thursday (Jan. 27) evening as the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team hosts the Michigan State Spartans in Big Rapids, Mich.
The encounter represesents Ferris State's lone action on the ice this week.
The puck will drop for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) contest at 7:36 p.m. (EST) and fans who are interested in attending may wish to take advantage of a special Buy One, Get One (BOGO) adult ticket offer (excludes students) through the Ferris State Athletics Department. Fans receive a second ticket to the game free of charge after purchasing a ticket at the full price of $16 per person due to the contest being designated as a "premier game." Ferris State Hockey fans are encouraged to wear white in support of the Bulldogs as part of the "White Out" event.
While at this Thursday's game, Ferris State Hockey fans can tune in live on the Bulldog Sports Network at 1460 AM and 107.7 FM as Dominic Hennig calls the action with Dan Kowalski providing game analysis. Ferris State enters the contest at 11-12-4 overall and 8-10-3-2 (4th-place tie-29 pts.) in the CCHA standings this season. The Bulldogs, under 19th-year head coach Bob Daniels, feature a pair of Hobey Baker Award candidates in seniors Pat Nagle and Zach Redmond. One of the CCHA top goaltenders, Pat Nagle (11-10-4, 2.00 GAA, .921sv%) presently is listed seventh among the national leaders in goals-against average, 18th in save percentage, and 34th in winning percentage (.520). Redmond, the 2010-11 Bulldog team captain, has compiled a team-high 16 points (6-10=16) and the FSU defenseman is ranked tied for 43rd place nationally in game-winning lamplighters (two).
Michigan State has compiled a 10-12-4 overall record with a 6-10-2-0 (10th place-20 pts.) in CCHA action to date this campaign. The Spartans are directed by ninth-year head coach Rick Comley and are led in scoring by junior forward Brett Perlini (15-10=25). Junior Drew Palmisano (7-11-3, 2.98 GAA, .903sv%) is the top goaltender for MSU, which ranks 32nd nationally in both scoring defense (2.92 gpg.) and power-play efficiency (17.1%) this week.
