Nate Hennig Highlight Reel

Senior center-left wing Nate Hennig (Macomb) of the nationally-ranked Ferris State University men's ice hockey team was recently profiled in a College Hockey News' (CHN) feature article entitled Ferris State's Hennig Finds His Groove.

This season, Hennig is midst his most productive campaign at Ferris State with career single-season highs in points (eight), goals (five), game-winning goals (one), and plus-minus efficiency (+4) in 14 contests.  He presently ranks tied for second among the 2010-11 team's scoring leaders with his eight points total.  The 6-0, 192-pound forward has recorded at least a point in seven outings this season, which included a four-game (Oct. 8-22) scoring streak highlighted by a goal (4-1=5) in each contest.

For his four-year FSU career, Hennig has compiled 16 points on seven goals with nine assists in 49 games.

The article was written by CHN Reporter Timothy O'Donnell and published online this Tuesday (Dec. 7).

Here's an excerpt of what O'Donnell wrote about Hennig in the CHN article.

For the first time since he arrived in Big Rapids, Mich., Nate Hennig is scoring. After putting up 50 points in two seasons with the Santa Fe Roadrunners (now the Topeka Roadrunners), Hennig had just eight points through three years at Ferris State. But things have changed this season. Through 12 games played Hennig has seven points and has doubled his career goal total with four on the year.

"(Over the summer), every day I was in the gym or on the ice working," Hennig said.

And that work is paying dividends early, and Hennig gives credit to the Bulldogs strength and conditioning coach Dave Cencer.

"When I first came to Ferris State, I was a little out of shape, a little overweight and a little uneducated," Hennig said. "I didn't really know what it took off the ice to compete on the ice."

Hennig and his teammates will be in action this weekend (Dec. 10-11) as the 18th-ranked Bulldogs host the 14th-ranked Alaska Nanooks in a two-game Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) series at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.  Opening faceoff is 7:05 p.m. (EST) for both contests and tickets may be purchased by contacting the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888 or ordering online at www.startickets.com.
