The Ferris State University Blueline Club is taking an active role during October's national Breast Cancer Awareness month by holding a "Power Play against Cancer" fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 24, with all of the proceeds going toward the purchase of a digital mammography system for the Mecosta County Medical Center.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Bulldog men's ice hockey game against Robert Morris on Oct. 24, which begins with a 5:05 p.m. (EDT) faceoff.
The day's festivities will begin with A Taste the Bulldog Bite from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. (EDT) outside the west side of Wink Arena on the FSU campus. Food and beverage will be supplied by a number of local restaurants such as Crankers, Snyder's Barbeque Market, Wendy's, Yoplait, Ice Mountain, FSU Catering & Dining Services, McDonalds, and The Gate. The cost is a $5 donation and $3 for kids under the age of 12.
The FSU hockey game will follow and individuals must purchase an admission ticket. Group rates can be arranged through the FSU Athletics Ticket Office by calling (231) 591-2888. A raffle and silent auction is scheduled to be held in Wink Arena during the non-league contest.
Following the game, the popular Skate With The Dawgs will take place until 8:45 p.m. (EDT) in which the current 2009-10 Bulldog hockey student-athletes will accompany fans on the ice for a meet-and-great activity. A $1 skate rental will be assessed along with a $1 donation to skate. The $1 donation to skate will be waived for those individuals who donated to the Taste the Bulldog Bite.
"We are very grateful for the (Ferris State) Blueline Club's willingness to help bring this important technology (a digital mammography system) to our community," said Debra Jacks, the director of planned giving and development for the Mecosta County Medical Center Foundation.
