Senior right wing Cody Chupp (Big Rapids) of the nationally-ranked 2009-10 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team was recently included among the 78 student-athletes who are in the preliminary pool of potential participants for the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Frozen Four Skills Challenge.
Chupp, a two-time (2008-09 and 2009-10) Ferris State team captain, will vie to be one of the 32 student-athletes competing in this year's Frozen Four Skills Challenge to be held Friday, April 9, at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich.
To determine the final 32 participants, the NCAA is incorporating fan voting which is now underway and concludes Monday, Feb. 15, at 12 p.m. (EST). Fans can vote for Cody Chupp at the NCAA's Frozen Four website - www.ncaa/com/frozen four. Although fan voting will aid in the selection process, the final decisions will be made by the selection committee by the end of this February. The final 2010 rosters for both the men's and women's East and West squads will include male and female alternates.
Those student-athletes nominated must currently be in their senior year of eligibility.
The Frozen Four Skills Challenge is part of "Friday Night At The Frozen Four" activities which also includes the presentation of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award and the Hockey Humanitarian Award along with announcement of the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American teams.
Chupp currently ranks second among Ferris State's top scorers this season with 24 points on seven goals and 17 assists in 26 contests. The Bulldog forward has produced a team-leading plus 12 efficiency rating while garnering five power-play goals and a game-winning lamplighter to date this 2009-10 campaign.
In 135 career games, Chupp has produced 89 career points on 33 goals with 56 assists.
