Riding a current six-game unbeaten streak, the 2009-10 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team is currently ranked this week (Nov. 23) among the nation's top 20 teams in two collegiate hockey polls.
FSU is listed 17th in the U.S. College Hockey Online/CBS College Sports Poll with 247 points and 18th by Inside College Hockey.com. The Bulldogs, under 18th-year head coach Bob Daniels, are among other teams receiving votes with 27 points in this week's (Nov. 23) 15th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.
Ferris State's current 9-3-2 overall record represents the program's best start since the record-setting 2002-03 season when the Bulldogs posted a 31-10-1 mark to go with a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) regular-season title and the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Bulldogs cracked the top 20 for the first time this season following a pair of league home victories (8-1 and 6-5 in overtime) over Ohio State this past weekend (Nov. 20-21) in Big Rapids, Mich. The two wins extended FSU's current unbeaten string to six straight at 4-0-2.
The U.S. College Hockey Online/CBS College Sports Poll consists of 50 voters encompassing 28 coaches from the NCAA Division I conferences along with 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. The poll is published weekly by the Associated Press.
Inside College Hockey.com's Poll is generated through Inside College Hockey editors and staff.
The USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll is conducted on a weekly basis in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
Ferris State is idle this upcoming weekend before returning to the ice Dec. 4-5 as the Bulldogs host the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks in a two-game CCHA series at Big Rapids. FSU is currently 8-0-0 in home outings this season.
