Blair Riley Named CCHA Player Of The Month For November
Ferris State University's Blair Riley (Kamloops, British Columbia), a senior student-athlete on the nationally-ranked 2009-10 Bulldog men's ice hockey team, has been selected the RBC Financial Group Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Player of the Month for November as announced Tuesday (Dec. 1) by the league office.
Riley, who earned the monthly honor for the first time in his career, played a vital role in leading the Bulldogs to a 4-0-2 record in November while totaling a team month-high eight goals and two assists for a squad-leading 10 points. He also posted a plus three efficiency rating while tallying three power-play goals and one short-handed marker in his six outings for the month.
Riley totaled four multiple-point games for the month, which included a career-best four points (3-1=4) versus Ohio State (Nov. 20). In that win over the Buckeyes, the 6-0, 220-pound forward netted his second collegiate career hat trick with a three-goal output. Along with the notable performance against OSU, Riley potted two goals apiece against Bowling Green State (Nov. 6) and nationally-ranked Miami (Nov. 13) while producing a goal and an assist in a series finale decision over Ohio State (Nov. 21).
Riley was also recognized as the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week and Inside College Hockey.com's (INCH) National Player of the Week earlier in the month (Nov. 23). The selection of Riley represents the second time in which a Ferris State player has received such recognition as former Bulldog goaltender Derek MacIntyre attained the honor in February 2007.
Receiving special mention for the RBC Financial Group CCHA Player of the Month Award were Bowling Green State forward Tomas Petruska, Miami (Ohio) goaltender Cody Reichard, Michigan forward Carl Hagelin, Michigan State goaltender Drew Palmisano, Nebraska-Omaha defenseman Eddie DelGrosso, Northern Michigan forward Greger Hanson, Notre Dame forward Billy Maday, and Ohio State forward Zac Dalpe.
Riley has presently chalked up a team-leading 16 points on a squad-best 12 goals and four assists to go with a plus six efficiency rating in 14 contests. Nationally, the FSU left winger is presently tied for first with 12 goals while ranking fourth with a 0.86 goals per game average.
For his career, Riley has accumulated 65 points on 36 goals and 29 assists in 121 outings.
Riley and his Ferris State teammates are off to a 9-3-2 start this season as the Bulldogs are ranked 17th in U.S. College Hockey Online's (USCHO) poll while being listed 18th by Inside College Hockey.com this week (Nov. 30). FSU sports a 4-2-2-(2) record (16 league points) in CCHA competition to date this season.
Ferris State, which was idle last weekend, returns to the ice this weekend (Dec. 4-5) for a two-game CCHA series against the nationally-ranked Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Game time for Friday's (Dec. 4) opener is 7:05 p.m. (EST) while Saturday's (Dec. 5) matchup commences at 5:05 p.m. (EST).
