Junior Zach Redmond (Traverse City), a member of the 2009-10 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team, has been selected as this week's (Oct. 26) Central Collegiate Hockey Association's (CCHA) Defenseman of the Week as announced by the league office.
Redmond tallied a pair of assists and produced a plus four efficiency rating in the Bulldogs' non-conference home series sweep of Robert Morris this past weekend (Oct. 23-24) at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. He also chipped in with a pair of blocked shots in the 4-1 series finale win over the Colonials on Saturday (Oct. 24) after garnering a plus three rating in Friday's (Oct. 23) 5-4 overtime victory.
Redmond has been a contributor to the Bulldogs' 5-1-0 start this season which represents the program's best since the 2002-03 campaign in which Ferris State posted a school-record 31-10-1 overall mark while claiming its first-ever CCHA Regular-Season Championship title.
For this season, Redmond has totaled a team third-best tying five points with a goal and four assists in six contests. The FSU defender has also registered a squad-best tying plus five efficiency rating to go with a game-winning power-play lamplighter and two blocked shots. The 6-2, 201-pound defenseman. who was named to the 2009-10 CCHA Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention Team, has totaled at least a point in four contests this season and is presently midst a three-game point streak with a combined three points (0-3=3) total.
Redmond has presently amassed 48 career points on 10 goals and 38 assists in 81 contests while generating a plus 18 efficiency rating. The 2008-09 FSU Most Valuable Player Award recipient has tallied four power-play markers, one short-handed goal, and two game-winning lamplighters in his FSU career.
Redmond, a 2008-09 MichiganCollegeHockey.com Second-Team selection, earned CCHA Defenseman of the Week accolades last season (Oct. 27).
Ferris State will begin CCHA play this weekend (Oct. 30-31) as the Bulldogs visit the Alaska Nanooks in Fairbanks, Alaska. Both league contests are scheduled to for 11:05 p.m. (EDT) starting time at UA's Carlson Center.
