For the first time this season, the 2009-10 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team is ranked among the nation's top 20 teams in all three national college hockey polls as released this Monday (Dec. 7).
Ferris State, which is midst an eight-game (6-0-2) unbeaten streak, is presently ranked 12th in the 15th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll with 116 points while the Bulldogs are listed 15th nationally by Inside College Hockey.com. U.S. College Hockey Online has Ferris State ranked 13th in its poll as the Bulldogs accumulated a 419 points total.
FSU's 11-3-2 record this campaign is represents its best start since the record-setting 2002-03 season when the Bulldogs claimed their first-ever Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) regular season championship title and also made first NCAA Tournament appearance in the program's history en route to a school-best 31-10-1 overall record under current head coach Bob Daniels.
A week ago (Nov. 30), the Bulldogs were ranked 17th in U.S. College Hockey Online's poll and 18th in Inside College Hockey.com's poll. FSU then registered a league home series sweep of nationally-ranked Nebraska-Omaha this last weekend (Dec. 4-5), winning 2-0 and 3-1, at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The two victories improved the Bulldogs' home mark to 10-0-0 this season.
The U.S. College Hockey Online/CBS College Sports Poll consists of 50 voters encompassing 28 coaches from the NCAA Division I conferences along with 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. The poll is published weekly by the Associated Press.

The USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll is conducted on a weekly basis in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
Ferris State, which is currently third in the 2009-10 CCHA standings with a 6-2-2-2 mark (22 pts.) will wrap up its 2009 action this weekend (Dec. 11-12) with a CCHA home-and-home series against the Western Michigan Broncos. The Bulldogs visit Western Michigan this Friday (Dec. 11) evening in the series opener at WMU's Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich. The puck will drop at 7:35 p.m. (EST). The two West Michigan teams then square off again this Saturday (Dec. 12) in Big Rapids, Mich., with a 5:05 p.m. (EST) start time slated for the weekend series finale.
