Ferris State Hockey Moves Up In College Hockey Polls
The 2009-10 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team, which is unbeaten in its last 10 games and is off to its best start since the 1979-80 season, continues to climb in the college hockey national polls.
The Bulldogs, who have registered a 13-3-2 overall record and are 8-0-2 in their last 10 appearances to date, are ranked 11th place in both this week's (Dec. 14) U.S. College Hockey Online and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Polls. Ferris State, under 18th-year head coach Bob Daniels, is listed 14th by Inside College Hockey.com this week.
FSU moved up two places in the U.S. College Hockey Online Poll into 11th with 556 points and one spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll with a 11th-place 167 total points. The Bulldogs' 14th-place national ranking by Inside College Hockey.com is one place higher than in last week's (Dec. 7) poll.
The U.S. College Hockey Online/CBS College Sports Poll consists of 50 voters encompassing 28 coaches from the NCAA Division I conferences along with 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the country. The poll is published weekly by the Associated Press.
Inside College Hockey.com's Poll is generated through Inside College Hockey editors and staff.
The USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll is conducted on a weekly basis in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
Ferris State is presently idle for the Christmas Holiday break until 2010 when the Bulldogs open the New Year by participating in Wisconsin's 21st annual Badger Hockey Showdown (Jan. 2-3) at UW's Kohl Center in Madison, Wis. FSU, which claimed consecutive Badger Hockey Showdown championship titles in 2003 and 2004, will square off against the Yale Bulldogs in one semifinal-round matchup while host Wisconsin takes on Merrimack in the other semifinal tilt. Ferris State along with Wisconsin and Yale are all currently nationally ranked.
