The 2009-10 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team's two-game Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) weekend series sweep at Notre Dame this past weekend (Jan. 9-10) has vaulted the Bulldogs among the top 10-ranked teams in two national college hockey polls.
Ferris State, which has compiled a current 16-4-2 overall record with a first-place tying 10-2-2-2 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) mark this season, has ascended to new heights as the Bulldogs have cracked the top 10 national rankings for the first time this season.
The Bulldogs moved up five places into the sixth-place spot in this week's (Jan. 11) U.S. College Hockey Online.com (USCHO) NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Poll with 685 points. The USCHO.com Poll consists of 50 votes, including 28 coaches from the Division I conferences and 22 beat writers and sports professionals from across the nation and is published weekly by the Associated Press. The 2002-03 Bulldog hockey team which went on to register a school-record 31-10-1 overall mark and the program's first-ever CCHA Regular-Season Championship title, earned a season-high sixth-place national ranking late in that memorable season.
Ferris State is listed seventh in the current (Jan. 11) USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll after occupying the 12th-place position a week ago. The Bulldogs have compiled 308 points in this week's poll and have been ranked among their top 15 teams five times this season. The 15th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
Ferris is ranked 10th by Inside College Hockey.com (INCH) this week (Jan. 10), which is three places ahead of its national ranking in last week's poll. The Inside College Hockey.com poll is compiled by the INCH editors and staff.
The Bulldogs, who are coached by Bob Daniels, are 11-1-2 in their last 14 outings and are midst a school-record 12 league game unbeaten streak with a 10-0-2 mark. FSU will put its current 11 home game winning streak on the line this weekend (Jan. 15-16) as the Bulldogs host the nationally second-ranked Miami (Ohio) RedHawks in a matchup of the CCHA's current first-place teams at the Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The two-game CCHA begins this Friday (Jan. 15) evening at 7:05 p.m. (EST) before concluding Saturday (Jan. 16) with a 5:05 p.m. (EST) opening faceoff.
