Ferris' Ouellette And Wysopal Earn CCHA Kudos

A pair of Ferris State University men's ice hockey players received weekly honors from the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) this Monday (Nov. 9) as freshman center Travis Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) earned league's Rookie of the Week honors while sophomore defenseman Brett Wysopal (LaGrange Park, Ill.) attained Defensive Player of the Week recognition as announced by the CCHA.

Both were an integral part in the Bulldogs' league home series sweep of Bowling Green State this past weekend (Nov. 6-7) at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.  As a result of the two home victories, Ferris State sports a 6-0-0 home mark which is the program's best start at home since the 1979-80 campaign.

Ouellette recorded three points in the two-game set versus the Falcons, which included a pair of first-period lamplighters in Saturday's 3-2 victory en route to garnering the game's first star.  The 5-8, 151-pound forward also tallied the game-winning goal with a second-period power-play marker in last Friday's 5-1 decision over Bowling Green State.

In nine games this season, Ouellette has compiled a team sixth-most six points on five goals and an assist to go with a plus one efficiency rating.  He currently holds the distinction of being Ferris State's leader in both points and goals among the its freshmen skaters.

Wysopal netted the game-winning goal in Saturday's win with a short-handed score late in the second period.  Wysopal also picked up a helper on the Bulldogs' initial tally in the contest and was recognized as the contest's second star.  The 5-7, 173-pound blueliner had a pair of assists in Friday's triumph and concluded the series with a pair of blocked shots.

For this season, Wysopal's six points on one goal and five assists in nine outings ranks tied for sixth place in team scoring to date.  Wysopal, a transfer from Colorado College, is also tied for second place among FSU's points leaders for defensemen.

Their teammate, junior Zach Redmond (Traverse City) was named CCHA Defenseman of the Week earlier this season (Oct. 26).

Ferris State, which is presently off to its best start since the school-record 2002-03 season at 7-3-0 overall and 2-2-0-0 in the CCHA, will take on nationally number-one ranked Miami (Ohio) this weekend (Nov. 13-14) at MU's Steve Cady Arena in Oxford, Ohio.  The weekend league series opener this Friday (Nov. 13) will commence at 7:35 p.m. (EST) while
