Ferris State University junior defenseman Zach Redmond (Traverse City) has been selected to the 2009-10 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) All-Conference Second Team in an announcement made this Wednesday (March 10) by the league office.
The All-CCHA Teams were chosen by a vote of the league's 12 head coaches and are based on the individual's performance in conference games. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Redmond, who was the lone Ferris State skater to receive all-league recognition this season, has presently appeared in all 36 games for the Bulldogs this season, posting a career season-high 25 points on a career season-best tying six goals with 19 assists to rank as the team's fourth-leading scorer. Redmond's 19 helpers are tied for the team lead while his 25 points ranks 34th highest among the CCHA's overall points leaders. The 6-2, 201-pound skater is fourth in league overall scoring for defensemen with a 0.69 points per game average and is third in CCHA matchups only among the blueliners as a result of averaging 0.68 points a contest.
This campaign, Redmond has totaled a team third-best five multiple-point game performances and has recorded at least a point in 19 contests. The two-time (2008-09 and 2009-10) CCHA Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention honoree has tallied five power-play goals and scored three game-winning lamplighters this season to date.
Redmond has been honored as the CCHA's Defenseman of the Week on three occasions (Oct. 26, Dec. 14, and Jan. 11) this season.
The 2008-09 Ferris State Most Valuable Player Award recipient has currently accumulated 68 career points on 15 goals and 53 assists to go with a plus 22 efficiency rating in 111 outings. Redmond, a 2008 seventh-round draft pick of the National Hockey League's (NHL) Atlanta Thrashers, presently ranks 13th among the Bulldogs' all-time defensemen in assists and is 15th in goal scoring.
In his 2007-08 freshman year at Ferris State, Redmond was named to the CCHA All-Rookie Honorable Mention Team and was also the recipient of FSU's Rookie of the Year Award. As a sophomore last season (2008-09), he was named a second-team representative by MichiganCollegeHockey.com for in-state season honorees to go along with his team MVP Award.
With his selection, Redmond represents the 23rd skater in the FSU program's history to earn either CCHA first or second-team recognition.
Ferris State currently sports a 19-11-6 overall record and placed third in the CCHA regular-season standings with a 13-9-6-4 mark. The Bulldogs, who are presently ranked 13th nationally in two national collegiate hockey polls, host the 18th-ranked Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks this weekend (March 12-14) in a best-of-three CCHA Playoff Quarterfinal-Round series in Big Rapids, Mich.
