The 2009-10 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team will be highlighted both nationally and regionally this upcoming season as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) recently released its television schedule with the Bulldogs slated to make three appearances.
CBS College Sports (CBSC) will televise both games of a Jan. 22-23 CCHA home-and-home series versus the Michigan Wolverines while FS Detroit Plus will showcase the Bulldogs' home series finale against the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Feb. 6
Ferris State will make its national television debut this season on Friday, Jan. 22, as the Bulldogs visit Michigan in a league weekend series opener to be televised live by CBS College Sports. Opening faceoff will be at 8:05 p.m. (EST) at UM's Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. CBS College Sports will follow the two-game set by airing the Saturday, Jan. 23 series finale to be held at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The puck will drop at 8:05 p.m. (EST).
FS Detroit will also make an appearance at the Ewigleben Ice Arena this season to show the Bulldogs' home series finale versus league opponent Northern Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 6. The game will be aired on FS Detroit Plus starting at 7:35 p.m. (EST).
The three contests are part of 50 games involving CCHA teams to be televised for the upcoming 2009-10 season, which includes 46 league regular-season and playoff encounters.
Locally, Ferris Television will televise three CCHA outings on the Bulldogs' home ice during the first half of the 2009-10 season - versus Bowling Green State (Nov. 6), against Ohio State (Nov. 20), and versus Nebraska-Omaha (Dec. 4). Three more league home games are tentatively slated to be aired by Ferris Television in the new year, which consists of Northern Michigan (Feb. 5), Michigan State (Feb. 19), and Western Michigan (Feb. 26).
"We're thrilled to have our TV partners back on our campus twice this season," said Ferris State head coach Bob Daniels, who embarks on his 18th year in 2009-10 directing the Bulldog hockey program. "Having these televised contests is great exposure not only for our program, but the University as a whole. We're appreciative of both CBS College Sports and FOX Sports Detroit for expressing the interest to showcase two of our home games.
"It's nice that we now have the drawing power to appear on TV and be able to give teams like Michigan some exposure," added Daniels.
Ferris State will make preparations for the 2009-10 campaign this Sunday (Oct. 4) versus the Wilfred Laurier (Ontario) Golden Hawks in a 2:05 p.m. (EDT) exhibition contest at the Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The Bulldogs will officially drop the puck on their 2009-10 season next weekend, Oct. 9-10, against the Canisius Golden Griffins in Buffalo, N.Y. Opening faceoff for both non-conference games is 7:05 p.m. (EDT).
The season home opener for Ferris State is scheduled for Oct. 16-17 with the Connecticut Huskies providing the opposition. The non-league series opener on Friday, Oct. 16, gets underway at 7:05 p.m. (EDT) while Saturday's, Oct. 17, finale will commence at 5:05 p.m. (EDT).
