Men's Golf Ranked Among Top 25 In Poll
The Ferris State University men's golf team has high expectations for success and coaches throughout the nation agree as the Bulldogs are ranked tied for 17th place in the 2009-10 Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was released this Thursday (Sept. 3).
The Bulldogs compiled 113 points to tie Lander (S.C.) for 17th-place honors in the preseason poll. Georgia College received top billing by earning five of the 18 first-place votes and accumulating 390 points. Barry (Fla.) is listed second with 386 points and four first-place votes while Columbus (Ga.) State ranks third as a result of totaling 368 points and picking up one first-place vote. Lynn (Fla.) also tallied a first-place vote with 329 points to place fourth. Sonoma State (Calif.) rounds out the top five after garnering 317 points coupled with seven first-place votes.
The preseason poll will appear in the Sept. 7 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online at www.golfworld.com. The Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Ferris State wrapped up the 2008-09 season with a 24th-place national ranking in the final Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Rankings Poll. The Bulldogs netted 51 points in the final national balloting. FSU proceeded to register a school-record tying eighth-place four-round 1,196-stroke team total at the 2009 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships (5/19-22) in Blaine, Wash.
The Bulldogs, under the direction of third-year head coach Mike Mignano, begin their 2009-10 season on Sept. 12-13 at the Saginaw Valley State Al Watrous Memorial Tournament in University Center, Mich.
