Bulldog Basketball Teams Open New Year At Home This Week
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams open the New Year at home this week with a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheaders at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.
The Bulldogs will host conference newcomer Malone for a league doubleheader on Thursday, Jan. 3, with the men's game set to tipoff first at 6 p.m. (ET) followed by the women's contest at 8 p.m. (ET).
Then, on Saturday, Jan. 5, FSU hosts the league's other first-year school as Walsh visits for a conference twinbill with the men's contest slated for a 1 p.m. (ET) start and the women's game beginning at 3 p.m. (ET).
This week's matchups represent the first-ever series' meetings against both schools in men's and women's hoops action.
Bulldog fans attending Thursday's league doubleheader can receive two adult tickets for the price of one by purchasing in advance prior to gameday thru the FSU Athletics Ticket Office. The ticket office will be open on Wednesday (Jan. 2) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (ET).
On Saturday, all youth in grades K-12 will be admitted free with a paid adult as part of the "Kids Day" promotion for the afternoon action against Walsh. Saturday's twinbill will be part of a tripleheader inside the Ewigleben Sports Complex as the nationally-ranked Bulldog hockey team hosts Michigan State across the concourse starting at 5:05 p.m. (ET).
This season, one lucky Bulldog fan will have a chance to win $10,000 at every conference home game as part of the Lake Osceola State Bank $10,000 Shootout. One contestant will be picked at random for a chance to make a layup, free throw, three-pointer and half-court shot in 25 seconds.

Adult general admission tickets are $7 or the cost is $5 for FSU faculty/staff, seniors ages 65 and up or students age 3 thru 12th grade. FSU students are admitted free with a valid student ID card.
Both the Bulldog men's and women's basketball squads are the defending GLIAC North Division Champions.
The FSU women's basketball team has currently won five of its last six contests heading into Thursday's first-ever meeting versus Malone and owns a 6-3 overall mark to date. FSU is also tied for first place in the GLIAC North with a 5-1 conference record.
On the women's side, Malone is 6-4 overall and the Pioneers are 2-4 in the GLIAC. Walsh holds a 4-5 overall record and is 1-4 in conference women's basketball action heading into the opening game of their trip to Michigan at Grand Valley State on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, the Ferris State men's team presently is 4-6 on the year and 3-3 in conference action to date this campaign. Both Malone and Walsh maintain identical 6-3 overall records in men's action. The Pioneers are 4-2 in the GLIAC while the Cavaliers are 2-3 in league play heading into their conference road game at GVSU.
Both doubleheaders will be broadcast locally by Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network starting with the Meijer Pregame Show a half-hour prior to tipoff of the men's game. Rob Bentley and Sandy Gholston will call the action.
