Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball team, which is the two-time defending divisional champion, has been selected to finish third in the 2012-13 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Basketball North Division Preseason Poll.

Additionally, senior guard Kenny Brown (Farmington Hills/Harrison) has been tabbed as a preseason All-GLIAC First Team honoree as announced by the league office while senior forward Daniel Sutherlin (Detroit/Renaissance) has claimed preseson second team accolades.

The announcements were made in conjunction with the official launch of the the special "Media Day Central" websites by the league office today (Oct. 31). The 2012 GLIAC Men's and Women's Basketball Media Day Central Websites include information on the upcoming campaign with video season previews from each of the respective 32 head men's and women's basketball coaches in the GLIAC.

The Bulldogs received four first place votes and 141 total points in the voting process.  Members of the media voted on the preseason poll with the league's head coaches and sports information directors choosing the preseason all-conference teams.

In the North Division, Michigan Tech was picked to finish first with 157 points and eight first-place votes, Wayne State was picked second with 155 points and nine first-place votes, Ferris State was third with 141 points and four first-place votes, Northwood was fourth with 115 points and two votes, Grand Valley State was tabbed fifth with 111 points, Lake Superior State was chosen sixth with 68 points, Saginaw Valley State took seventh with 50 points and Northern Michigan was eighth with 31 points.

In the 2012-13 GLIAC Preseason Men's Basketball Poll, Findlay was picked first in the South Division with 178 points and 17 first-place votes. The Oilers were followed by Hillsdale College with 159 points and five first-place votes, Ashland with 140 points and a single first-place vote followed by Tiffin with 86 points in fourth, league newcomer Walsh in fifth with 78 points, Lake Erie sixth with 72 points, newcomer Malone with 70 points in seventh and finally Ohio Dominican in the eighth spot with 45 points.

The Bulldog men's basketball team, which is guided by 11th-year head coach Bill Sall, welcomes back eight letterwinners from last year's squad that won a share of a second consecutive GLIAC North Division Championship.

FSU ended the 2011-12 campaign with a 16-11 overall record after winning a share of a second-straight GLIAC North Division Championship. The Bulldogs also made their 13th all-time GLIAC Tournament berth last year, including the program's fourth-straight conference tournament appearance. Overall, Ferris State has won four league titles and made three trips to the NCAA Tournament in Sall's tenure.

The Bulldog men's basketball team begins its season with an exhibition contest at NCAA Division I member Loyola on Saturday, Nov. 3, with tipoff set for 5 p.m. (ET) in Chicago, Ill.  The Bulldogs will play a home exhibition contest versus longtime foe Calvin on Tuesday, Nov. 6, starting at 7:30 p.m. (ET) inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The regular-season opener for the Bulldog men will be on Saturday, Nov. 17, at home versus Lewis (Ill.) beginning at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
