Bulldog Basketball Teams Open Preseason Preparations For 2012-13 Season

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball squads both officially began preparations for the 2012-13 campaign by holding their first practices on Monday (Oct. 15) in FSU's Jim Wink Arena at Big Rapids, Mich.

The Bulldog men's basketball team, which is guided by 11th-year head coach Bill Sall, welcomes back eight letterwinners from last year's squad that won a share of a second consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Championship.

Meanwhile, the Ferris State women's basketball program begins a new era under first-year head coach Colleen Lamoreaux-Tate by returning eight players from a squad that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament and also won the GLIAC North Division last season.

A veteran coach with 26 years of experience on the sidelines and regarded as one of the state's top prep coaches, Lamoreaux-Tate most recently spent the last seven years as the varsity girls basketball coach at Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School where she guided the Cougars to a 167-19 cumulative record.

Ferris State finished the 2011-12 women's basketball season with a 23-7 overall record, which matched the school record set previously in 2006-07 for most wins in a campaign. Last year marked the 15th time in the last 16 seasons the Bulldogs have registered double-digit wins in a campaign.

On the men's side, FSU ended the 2011-12 campaign with a 16-11 overall record after winning a share of a second-straight GLIAC North Division Championship. The Bulldogs also made their 13th all-time GLIAC Tournament berth last year, including the program's fourth-straight conference tournament appearance. Overall, Ferris State has won four league titles and made three trips to the NCAA Tournament in Sall's tenure.

The Bulldog men's basketball team begins its season with an exhibition contest at NCAA Division I member Loyola on Saturday, Nov. 3, with tipoff set for 5 p.m. (ET) in Chicago, Ill.  The Bulldogs will play a home exhibition contest versus longtime foe Calvin on Tuesday, Nov. 6, starting at 7:30 p.m. (ET) inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The regular-season opener for the Bulldog men will be on Saturday, Nov. 17, at home versus Lewis (Ill.) beginning at 7:30 p.m. (ET).

The Bulldog women's basketball squad will hit the court for the first time with an exhibition game versus Calvin on Friday, Nov. 2, starting at 6 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.  FSU opens the regular-season on Nov. 9-10 in the United Electric Tip-Off Classic hosted by Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky.  The season opener is against Cedarville (Ohio) on Friday, Nov. 9, at 5 p.m. (ET).

Both Bulldog teams will open defense of their conference regular-season championships on the road as GLIAC action begins on Nov. 29 against the Lake Erie Storm in Painesville, Ohio.
