Big Homestand For FSU Basketball This Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - A big homestand is on tap for the Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams this week as they square off against two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponents inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs open the homestand by hosting Wayne State on Thursday (Feb. 17) night before facing Findlay on Saturday (Feb. 19) afternoon inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.  Several special promotional activities are planned in conjunction with both twinbills, which will also have significant postseason implications.

Thursday's men's contest against WSU tips off at 6 p.m. (ET) with the women's game to follow starting at approximately 8 p.m. (ET).  Meanwhile, Saturday's action versus Findlay begins at 1 p.m. (ET) for the men and 3 p.m. (ET) for the women.

Tickets for both doubleheaders will be sold at the door.  FSU students are admitted free with their student identification cards. Adult general admission tickets are $7 while FSU faculty/staff, seniors and students grades K-12 are $5.  Ferris students are admitted free with student identification cards. For additional information on home ticket sales, please contact the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888.

Both of this week's doubleheaders will be carried live by the Bulldog Sports Network. A live audio and video pay-per-view webcast will also be offered via America One. They can also be heard via Bulldog Radio on Charter Channel 98 in Mecosta County or Channel 21 on the FSU campus along with online via Ustream at www.ferrisstatebulldogs.com. Live internet statistics will also be provided or fans can also follow FSU twitter and facebook scoring updates.

Thursday's basketball doubleheader against the Warriors represents the school's annual "Pink Wave Night" contest in support of breast cancer awareness with fans encouraged to wear pink to help support the cause. Additionally, the FSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will also hold a Faculty Appreciation Night event the same evening to honor campus faculty members who have a significant impact on student-athletes.

The FSU Student Government and Entertainment Unlimited organizations have also teamed up for a "Caribbean of the North Snowcoming" event that will take place throughout the weekend.  Saturday will represent "Kidz Day" sponsored by Green's Sporting Goods.

The Bulldog men's team has currently won 10 consecutive games and holds a two-game lead over rival Grand Valley State in the GLIAC North Division standings with three games left in the regular-season. Meanwhile, Findlay and Wayne State are ranked first and second, repsectively, in the league's South Division for the men and both have been ranked nationally this campaign with the Oilers currently listed third in the country.

All three teams are also ranked among the region's top 10 men's teams this year with Findlay third, WSU fifth and FSU ninth heading into the week.  The top eight regional teams at the end of the season earn bids into the NCAA Division II Tournament.

On the women's side, the Bulldogs are currently tied for the eighth and final spot in the GLIAC Tournament race.  WSU is only a half-game behind FSU entering the week while Findlay is currently tied for the South Division lead.

Ferris State currently holds an 18-5 overall men's record and the Bulldogs are 14-2 in the GLIAC while the FSU women own an 11-11 mark with a 7-9 conference ledger.
