FSU Basketball Continues GLIAC Play This Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams have wrapped up the "131 Showdown", but continue Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a pair of league doubleheaders this week.

The Bulldogs first visit Lake Superior State for a conference twinbill on Thursday (Feb. 3) night with the men's game starting at 5:30 p.m. (ET) followed by the women's tilt at 7:30 p.m. (ET) in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Then, on Saturday (Feb. 5), FSU hosts Saginaw Valley State in an afternoon doubleheader with a 1 p.m. (ET) start time scheduled for the men's contest and a 3 p.m. (ET) tipoff for the women's game at Ferris' Jim Wink Arena.

A couple of special events will take place on Saturday at Wink Arena.  As part of the Big Rapids area's month-long Festival of the Arts celebration, a special performance will take place at halftime of both games and feature Fiddlers ReStrung, a 21-piece string ensemble which plays a diverse arrangement of musical styles. Consisting of students from Saline (Mich.) High School, the group offers an authentic creative edge that is clearly visible from the striking energy they portray on stage.

In addition to the performance by Fiddlers ReStrung, Saturday's doubleheader will also mark a celebration of Healthy Hearts.  Fans are encouraged to WEAR RED to commemorate National Wear Red for Hearts Day and Go Red for Women Day.  Games and contests involving heart health will take place and prizes will be offered.  Various heart health stations will also take place in the lobby where fans can obtain information about heart disease and get their blood pressure checked.

Tickets for Saturday's home doubleheader will be sold at the door.  FSU students are admitted free with their student identification cards. For additional information on home ticket sales, please contact the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888.

Both of this week's doubleheaders will be carried live by the Bulldog Sports Network and streamed online via Ustream at www.ferrisstatebulldogs.com. They can also be heard via Bulldog Radio on Charter Channel 98 in Mecosta County or Channel 21 on the FSU campus. In addition to the FSU broadcast coverage, a live pay-per-view video webcast will also be offered for both doubleheaders thru America One in addition to live internet statistics. Fans can also follow twitter or facebook scoring updates.

The Bulldog men's basketball team, which pulled out a thrilling 79-72 overtime victory against nationally 15th-ranked archrival Grand Valley State in the "131 Showdown" on Saturday (Jan. 29) night at Van Andel Arena, presently are tied for first place in the divisional standings with a 14-5 overall and 10-2 league record.  They've won six-straight games to date.

The FSU women's team has emerged victorious in three of their last four tilts and are presently 9-9 overall along with 5-7 in league action.

The Ferris State men's basketball team is currently unbeaten (9-0) at home this season.  FSU is two wins away from notching the 1,000th victory in school history.
