Ferris To Face Rival GVSU In "131 Showdown"

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams hit the floor for a special event this Saturday, Jan. 29, as the Bulldogs square off against archrival Grand Valley State in the "131 Showdown" presented by Amway at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.

The women's game will tipoff first at 6 p.m. (ET) with a share of first place on the line in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) to follow via the men's contest at approximately 8 p.m. (ET).

The Bulldog men's squad heads into Saturday's action with a 13-5 overall record and has won seven of its last eight outings to date this year.  The Bulldogs are second in the GLIAC North Division with a 9-2 conference mark and trail the Lakers by a single game in the divisional standings.  The nationally 15th-ranked Lakers are 15-3 overall in men's play and own a 10-1 league record.

Meanwhile, the FSU women's team, which has won three consecutive games, will try to keep its victory streak intact in the opening game of the twinbill versus GVSU.  The Bulldog women are 9-8 overall and 5-6 in league competition while the Lakers are presently 14-4 overall and 7-4 in the GLIAC.

A portion of the proceeds from the "131 Showdown" will be donated to support cancer research at the Van Andel Institute as part of the Community for a Cure Purple Game. The color purple symbolizes cancer survivors.

Two popular personalities will also be on hand for the "131 Showdown" as the Detroit Pistons public address announcer "Mason" will be on the mic for both games with Fox 17 entertainment reporter Emily Richett serving as the emcee for the evening.

Tickets for the "131 Showdown" can be purchased by calling 1-(800)-745-3000 or by going online at Ticketmaster.com. Visit www.131showdown.com for more information and to purchase tickets.
