Big Rapids, Mich. - For the second consecutive week, the Ferris State University men's basketball team is listed eighth in the latest NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings announced Wednesday (Feb. 17).

The Bulldogs are one of only three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams found among the region's top 10 squads heading into the final two weeks of regular-season competition.

Kentucky Wesleyan holds down the top spot in the regional listing followed by fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) counterpart Drury (Mo.) in the second position.  Grand Valley State is third, Quincy (Ill.) is listed fourth and Findlay comes in at number five.

The second five in order includes Central State (Ohio), Rockhurst (Mo.), FSU, Bellarmine (Ky.) and St. Joseph's (Ind.).

The top eight teams at the end of the season will advance to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament set for March 13-16 at a campus site to be determined.  Two automatic bids are also awarded to the champions of the GLIAC and GLVC Tournaments.

The rankings were announced for each of the eight regions by the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee. The regional rankings will be released weekly on Wednesday's through March 3, 2010. Selections will take place via a Webcast selection show on NCAA.com, and is set for Sunday, March 7.

Two teams from the NCAA-II Midwest Region are also found in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II National Rankings this week, including second-ranked Southern Indiana and number six-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan.  However, Southern Indiana is not eligible to compete in this year's national tournament and therefore not included in the regional rankings.  Both Drury and Quincy are found among other's receiving votes in the national poll.

The Bulldogs have made eight NCAA Division II Tournament appearances in school history with the most recent trip coming in 2005-06.  FSU previously advanced to the NCAA-II Elite Eight in 1988-89 and reached the NCAA-II Sweet Sixteen under current head coach Bill Sall during the 2004-05 campaign.

Ferris State currently owns a 14-9 overall record and is second in the GLIAC North Divsion with a 12-6 league mark.  The Bulldogs will play their final two regular-season road games this week by traveling to Saginaw Valley State on Thursday (Feb. 18) and then venturing to Lake Superior State on Saturday (Feb. 20).

Next week, FSU returns home to host Northwood (Feb. 25) and Wayne State (Feb. 27) in their final two regular-season contests at Jim Wink Arena.

The regular-season finale versus WSU on Feb. 27 has been dubbed "Operation Giveaway" with a variety of prizes, scholarships and more slated to be given away in an effort to help fill Wink Arena for the annual Senior Day contest.
