Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball
team will be on the road for its quarterfinal-round game in the
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament
on Tuesday, March 2.
The Bulldogs, who will be seeded fifth overall in the eight-team
field, will face fourth-seeded Saginaw Valley State with tipoff set
for 7:30 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday evening at O'Neill Arena inside the
Ryder Center in University Center, Mich. Tickets will be sold
at the door prior to the contest.
The top four teams earned first round home games with the
quarterfinal-round winners advancing to the GLIAC Tournament
semifinals and finals on Friday and Saturday, March 5-6, at the
site of the highest remaining seed. Findlay earned the top
seed and would host the semifinals/finals with a win on Tuesday
night.
The other quarterfinal round pairings include number two seed
Grand Valley State hosting seventh-seeded Wayne State along with
third-seeded Hillsdale at home against sixth-seeded Lake Superior
State. The eighth seed Ashland will travel to top-seeded
Findlay for the quarterfinals.
The winner of the GLIAC Tournament receives an automatic bid into
the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament slated to be held March
13-16 at a campus location yet to be determined.
The Bulldog men are 7-12 all-time in 10 previous tournament
appearances and advanced to the GLIAC Tournament Championship game
in 2005-06 before dropping an 80-58 decision in the title contest
(3/3/06) at Grand Valley State. Ferris captured the 1997-98 league
tourney title and will be making its fifth appearance in the last
six years, including a second consecutive showing.
The Bulldog men's basketball team concluded the regular-season
with a 15-12 overall record and is the league's fifth overall seed
following a 13-9 league regular-season performance. FSU tied
SVSU for fourth place in the league's overall standings, but
dropped the tiebreaker for homecourt advantage after falling to the
Cardinals twice this season including a narrow 68-66 decision last
week (Feb. 18) at University Center.
