FSU's Caleb Murphy Earns D2 National Defensive Player Of Week Honor

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University All-America defensive end Caleb Murphy (Dowagiac) was honored today as The College Football Network Division II National Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in FSU's week two victory.

Previously, Murphy was tabbed earlier this week as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Murphy had a memorable day on Saturday as the top-ranked Bulldogs dominated 14th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne defensively in a 27-5 road win in Hickory, N.C. The Bulldogs held the Bears to only 94 yards of total offense and 16 rushing yards while forcing two third-quarter turnovers that led directly to scores.

Murphy paced the Bulldogs with a team-high 12 tackles and added six tackles for loss (-38 yards) and five quarterback sacks (-37 yards) in addition to forcing a fumble. Nine of his 12 stops were unassisted efforts. His play helped FSU tally seven sacks en route to the Bulldogs' school-record 16th consecutive victory overall and 40th-straight regular-season road win. His five sacks set a school single-game record and his play helped the FSU defense hold the Bears to a 1-16 showing on third down.

The Bulldogs are currently midst a bye week and will return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 24, against Waldorf in the 2022 homecoming contest at Top Taggart Field. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. (ET). Tickets for the homecoming game are on sale now at FerrisStateBulldogs.com/Tickets.
