Big Rapids, Mich. - For his efforts in helping the Ferris State University football team to an exciting 20-14 home win over Walsh on Saturday (Sept. 22) evening, Bulldog senior linebacker Tayo Moss (South Rockwood/Monroe St. Mary's) has claimed this week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Player of the Week honor.
The preseason All-American had a pair of game-changing plays to key the Bulldogs' win over the league newcomer at FSU's Top Taggart Field. With the Bulldogs trailing 7-6 early in the fourth quarter and Walsh inside the FSU redzone, Moss scooped up a fumble and raced 82 yards to the endzone to give Ferris State the lead.
On the following offensive play, Moss forced a Walsh fumble that was recovered by the Bulldogs at the Cavaliers' 34-yard line and eventually led to another score. He tallied a game-high 13 tackles, including five solo hits, to go with a tackle for loss, forced fumble and the fumble recovery return.
The 82-yard return for a score is a school record and also surpassed the Bulldogs' previous season-high total of 78 fumble return yards.
His efforts lifted the Bulldogs to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC as FSU won for the first time at Top Taggart Field under first-year head coach Tony Annese.
This week, the Bulldogs begin divisional play by visiting Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Sept. 29) night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (ET) at SVSU's Harvey Randall Wickes Memorial Stadium in University Center.
Saturday night's contest will be carried live by the Bulldog Sports Network and Sunny 97.3 FM starting with the Meijer Pregame Show at 6:30 p.m. Rob Bentley and Sandy Gholston will call the action and a live audio stream will be available at FerrisStateBulldogs.com.
