Big Rapids, Mich. - On the eve of the 2012 season opener, two Ferris State University football seniors have been chosen as NCAA Division II Preseason All-Americans by the USA Football News.
Senior linebacker Tayo Moss (South Rockwood/Monroe St. Mary's) was tabbed as a first team preseason All-America selection while senior defensive end Jordan Morgan (Chicago, Ill./Mt. Carmel) claimed preseason All-America third team recognition.
USA Football News announced its 20th Annual USA College Football NCAA Division II Pre-Season All-American and Regional All-Star Teams selected by coaches, sports information directors, certified players' agents, pro scouts, media and staff of USA Football News.
All members of the Class of 2013 with no remaining college eligibility who have been chosen to the All-American teams are candidates to participate in the 2013 USA Freedom Bowl, a four-day, three-night event that will be held Jan. 18-21, 2013. The inaugural Fortier Trophy will be presented on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the USA College Football All-American Banquet to the Division II Player of the Year.
Earlier this summer, Moss was also chosen as a preseason All-American by the Beyond College Sports Network on its second-team squad and named one of the top three players to watch in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) this season.
A 2011 All-GLIAC First Team selection, Moss received all-conference recognition for the first time last fall after finishing the 2011 regular-season campaign as the GLIAC's leading tackler (10.7 tpg.) with 35 solo stops and 85 assisted hits for 118 total tackles. Moss had 10 tackles or more in seven games, including the last three of the season when he twice had 15 stops or more. Additionally, Moss was honored in 2011 as a member of the Don Hansen Division II All-Super Region Three Second Team on the defensive side.
Meanwhile, Morgan claimed All-GLIAC Second Team laurels for the second year in a row in 2011 as he finished with 75 tackles on 21 solo hits and 54 assists. He's among the school's top 10 overall career sack leaders to date and also holds the school mark for most blocked kicks. He earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a sophomore, which makes him a three-time all-league pick heading into his final campaign.
Moss and Morgan will help the Bulldogs kickoff a new era under first-year head coach Tony Annese on Thursday (Aug. 30) night as FSU ventures to face the University of St. Francis on ATI Field at Joliet Memorial Stadium in Joliet, Ill.
Thursday's game is slated for a 7 p.m. (ET) start and the contest can be heard live on Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network at FerrisStateBulldogs.com. The veteran play-by-play team of Rob Bentley and Sandy Gholston will call the action beginning with the Bulldog Football Pregame Show at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
