Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University football team will hold its first official scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday (Aug. 18) at Top Taggart Field.
The Bulldogs, who opened camp with their first official practice last Thursday, will have 11 practices under their belts prior to Saturday's scrimmage, which is scheduled for a 12 p.m. (ET) start with warmups beginning at 11 a.m. (ET).
In addition to the scrimmage, those Bulldog fans wanting to purchase chair back seats for the 2012 home season may do so at that time. New reserved chair backs will offered this season and are $85 including a season ticket or $55 without a season ticket. A FSU seating representative will be on hand to help fans choose a preferred seating location during the scrimmage at Top Taggert Field.
Following Saturday's scrimmage, the Bulldogs are scheduled to practice all of next week, including a pair of two-a-day sessions leading up to the final preseason scrimmage.
Ferris' three-week training camp period not only features practices and scrimmages, but also meetings, lifting, conditioning, testing and various orientation sessions.
The Bulldogs return 40 letterwinners and nearly 18 starters from a year ago when they finished with a 6-5 overall record in the GLIAC.
Ferris State will officially begin its 104th season of varsity competition and the first campaign under new head coach Tony Annese on the road with its lone non-league game on Thursday, Aug. 30, at the University of St. Francis (Ill.) in Joliet, Ill.
The Bulldogs' 11-game schedule in 2012 features five home contests at FSU's Top Taggart Field along with six consecutive night games to open the campaign. Ferris State's home opener is scheduled for Sept. 15 when the Ashland Eagles make the trip to Big Rapids to square off against the Bulldogs. Kickoff for the initial home game is slated for 7 p.m. (ET) under the lights.
