Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University junior running back Skyler Stoker (Jackson/Grass Lake) has reaped the benefits of an outstanding performance as he was tabbed today (Sept. 6) as the first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Offensive Player of the Week Award recipient for the 2011 season.
The weekly award is selected by the league office staff and sponsored by Hit Trophy.
Stoker rambled for a personal career-high 162 yards on 16 carries as the Bulldogs upset preseason nationally 18th-ranked Hillsdale by a 20-17 score in the 2011 opener on Friday (Sept. 2) night at FSU's Top Taggart Field.
The junior tailback averaged 10.1 yards per carry and scored two touchdowns as FSU rallied from a 17-7 deficit in the second half. Stoker scored the game's final two TD's before a crowd of 3,453 fans in the non-league contest between the two GLIAC rivals.
Nearly 83% (134) of his 162 total rushing yards came in the second half after the Chargers had taken a 17-7 lead midway thru the third period. He scored on runs of 11 and nine yards out, respectively.
This week's selection marks the first time Stoker has received the GLIAC weekly honor in his collegiate career.
