FSU Football Opens Fall Camp On Aug. 11

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University football program will begin official preseason preparations for the 2011 campaign next Wednesday (Aug. 10) as the squad's freshmen report to campus for the first time.

The Bulldogs' returning veterans will check in on Thursday (Aug. 11) with the squad's first official practice set for Friday (Aug. 12). FSU will hold 25 workouts along with two major scrimmages prior to the team's season opener on Friday, Sept. 2.

Ferris' three-week training camp period will not only feature practices and scrimmages, but also meetings, lifting, conditioning, testing and various orientation sessions. Practices will be held both on the FSU practice fields along with selected ones on the Mondo Ecofill artificial surface at Top Taggart Field.

FSU's initial preseason scrimmage is set for Saturday, Aug. 20, at 9:30 a.m. (EDT). The final scrimmage will be held prior to FSU's annual media/photo day activities on Friday, Aug. 26. The scrimmage will begin at 9 a.m. (EDT) with the media/photo day taking place at 1 p.m. (EDT).

Ferris State kicks off its 103rd season of varsity competition this fall by hosting Hillsdale in a non-conference matchup on Friday, Sept. 2, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. (ET) at Top Taggart Field.  FSU and Hillsdale are not scheduled to play each other as part of the GLIAC schedule this season.

The Bulldogs, who will play an 11-game regular-season schedule, open GLIAC action the following week at Saginaw Valley State in their first road contest on Saturday, Sept. 10, at SVSU's Wickes Memorial Stadium.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ET).

The Bulldogs' 2011 schedule features alternating home and away games throughout the year as FSU will not play consecutive contests either at home or on the road at any point during the campaign.

Ferris State is expected to return nearly 50 letterwinners for the 2011 campaign, including almost 19 full-time starters with nine on the defensive side of the ball and eight coming back offensively along with two kicking specialists.
