"Super Saturday" Planned For Ashland Game
A variety of special events and promotions are planned for
"Super Saturday" as the Ferris State University football team hosts
the nationally-ranked Ashland Eagles in their 2009 Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener this Saturday
(Sept. 5) evening at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids,
Mich. Kickoff for the game is set for 7 p.m. (EDT).
In addition to the game, a bean bag toss tournament is planned
for 5 p.m. (ET) followed by a classic car show at 6 p.m.
(ET). A bag pipe band will perform at halftime and the annual
fireworks display is planned following the contest, weather
permitting.
The game coincides with the area's annual Big Rapids Riverdays
Festival over the Labor Day holiday weekend. The giant
slip'n'slide event will take place once again at halfitme and
in-game promotions will include such things as the Ken's Kick
Contest, Birkam Football giveaway and Synder's Certificates.
Gameday sponsors helping support the fireworks display include FSU
Dining, MCO, the Pioneer Group and Phillips Ford.
"The Bulldog Challenge" kids area will also be set up in the turf practice area on the northeast side of Top Taggart Field and be part of the day's activities. The kids area will be sponsored by Sgt. Shawn Fries and the National Guard and feature such things as a mechanical rock wall, inflatable obstacle course and throwing contests.

Tickets are $7 adults or $5 students (K-12), senior citizens and
FSU faculty/staff. Ferris students with ID will be admitted free as
will children not yet of school age.
The Ferris State football team opened the 2009 campaign before a
crowd of 3,407 fans this past Saturday (Aug. 29) with a 34-14
non-league home win over Tiffin at Top Taggart Field under rainy
conditions.
Meanwhile, the Eagles, who were ranked 13th in the 2009
D2football.com Preseason National Poll, suffered a narrow
10-7 non-conference road setback in their season opener last
Thursday (Aug. 27) at 11th-ranked Bloomsburg (Pa.).
Last season (9/6/08), the Bulldogs upset the nationally-ranked
Eagles 25-24 at AU's Community Stadium by blocking a potential
game-winning field goal try as time expired in the contest.
