A variety of special events and promotions are planned for "Super Saturday" as the Ferris State University football team hosts the nationally-ranked Ashland Eagles in their 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener this Saturday (Sept. 5) evening at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.  Kickoff for the game is set for 7 p.m. (EDT).

In addition to the game, a bean bag toss tournament is planned for 5 p.m. (ET) followed by a classic car show at 6 p.m. (ET).  A bag pipe band will perform at halftime and the annual fireworks display is planned following the contest, weather permitting.

The game coincides with the area's annual Big Rapids Riverdays Festival over the Labor Day holiday weekend.  The giant slip'n'slide event will take place once again at halfitme and in-game promotions will include such things as the Ken's Kick Contest, Birkam Football giveaway and Synder's Certificates.

Gameday sponsors helping support the fireworks display include FSU Dining, MCO, the Pioneer Group and Phillips Ford.

"The Bulldog Challenge" kids area will also be set up in the turf practice area on the northeast side of Top Taggart Field and be part of the day's activities.  The kids area will be sponsored by Sgt. Shawn Fries and the National Guard and feature such things as a mechanical rock wall, inflatable obstacle course and throwing contests.

Tickets will be available at the gate or for more information, please contact the FSU Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888. FSU tickets can also be bought online at www.starticketsplus.com. Tickets are $7 adults or $5 students (K-12), senior citizens and FSU faculty/staff. Ferris students with ID will be admitted free as will children not yet of school age.

The Ferris State football team opened the 2009 campaign before a crowd of 3,407 fans this past Saturday (Aug. 29) with a 34-14 non-league home win over Tiffin at Top Taggart Field under rainy conditions.

Meanwhile, the Eagles, who were ranked 13th in the 2009 D2football.com Preseason National Poll, suffered a narrow 10-7 non-conference road setback in their season opener last Thursday (Aug. 27) at 11th-ranked Bloomsburg (Pa.).

Last season (9/6/08), the Bulldogs upset the nationally-ranked Eagles 25-24 at AU's Community Stadium by blocking a potential game-winning field goal try as time expired in the contest.
