Big Rapids, Mich. - The 2009 Ferris State University football team
held its final preseason scrimmage on Friday (Aug. 21) morning in
conjunction with the program's annual Media/Fans Photo Day at FSU's
Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
The Bulldogs scrimmaged for nearly two hours under sometimes
drizzly conditions before a nice crowd of fans and local media in a
game-type situation on the stadium's Mondo Ecofill artificial
surface.
While several key players were held out of the scrimmage for
various reasons, a number of big plays helped the Bulldogs put
points on the scoreboard. The defense also had opportunities
and was able to create turnovers in certain situations as the top
units battled each other for parts of the scrimmage.
The scrimmage wrapped up the Bulldogs' preseason camp.
The players will get the weekend off before beginning their normal
game week routinue on Monday.
"We're still making progress and have things we need to correct,
but I thought today we took a big step forwards in our
preparation," said FSU head coach Jeff
Pierce. "We've got some young players competing at
the skill positions and those guys are maturing and starting
to make plays.
"We're excited about coming out of camp and getting ready to play a new opponent," he added.
Ferris' three-week training camp period featured 19 practices and two scrimmages along with meetings, lifting, conditioning, testing and various orientation sessions.
