The FSU Gridiron Club will welcome the 2009 Ferris State University football incoming freshman class by holding its annual "Freshman Picnic" on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
The families of the incoming players and the Big Rapids community are invited and encouraged to attend the event, which is sponsored by the Gridiron Club. The picnic will begin at 6:30 p.m. (EDT). Following the picnic at 7:30 p.m. (EDT), the FSU coaching staff and incoming players will be introduced to the public. After the introductions, the FSU Gridiron Club members will meet with the parents in attendance to cover a variety of topics on the upcoming season while the incoming freshmen will meet at the same time with team coaches.
For more information on the picnic, please contact Gary Wendlowsky with the Gridiron Club at (231) 591-2827 or via email at email@example.com.
The incoming players will report to fall camp on Wednesday (Aug. 5) morning for check-in and physicals prior to the picnic and meeting. Veterans players will report on Thursday (Aug. 6) morning with testing and meetings set for the first day of camp. The first practice is slated to be held on Friday (Aug. 7) morning at 10 a.m. (EDT) following additional testing.
Ferris State will kickoff its 101st season of varsity competition Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Tiffin (Ohio) Dragons in a 7 p.m. (EDT) non-conference contest at Top Taggart Field. The game will take place during FSU "Welcome Week" activities and be part of a true "Community Football Day" atmosphere as Big Rapids High School will also open its 2009 season versus Holton earlier in the day (2:30 p.m.) in the same facility and a rocket football contest will be part of the FSU halftime events.
