Prep-College Doubleheader On Tap Saturday
A prep-college doubleheader is on tap when Ferris State University holds "Community Football Day" in conjunction with this Saturday's (Aug. 29) Bulldog football season opener against Tiffin (Ohio) at Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
The Bulldogs will kick off the 2009 season by teaming up with
Big Rapids High School for the prep/college doubleheader. The
Cardinals' high school squad will open its 2009 season versus
Holton at 2:30 p.m. (EDT) followed by FSU's season-opening
non-league tilt against Tiffin at 7 p.m. (EDT). The twinbill will
take place as part of Ferris "Welcome Week" activities and a rocket
youth football contest will be part of the FSU halftime events,
making it a true community event.
The Cardinal football team, which reached the Michigan High School
Athletic Association (MHSAA) State Playoffs last campaign, was
represented at the "Community Football Day" photo shoot held
Wednesday (Aug. 26) by senior lineman Nate
Hamel. Former Big Rapids standout Jake
Hancock, who is projected to make his first career start
at center versus Tiffin on Saturday, served as Ferris'
representative for the group photo. The duo was joined by
local 11-year old Jamison Green, who will take
part in the Rocket Football halftime contest.
Promotions planned for "Community Football Day" also include a Cornhole Tournament starting at 4 p.m. (EDT) and a giant slip'n'slide event at halfitme of the college contest. The game will also include in-game promotions such as Ken's Kick Contest, Birkam Football giveaway, Synder's Certificates and Patterson's Bulldog Sweetheart of the Game.
If the weather is nice, a lucky group will also sit in recliners and sofas compliments of Big Rapids Furniture and the "Best Seat in the House" contest.
Finally, a special kids corner called "The Bulldog Challenge" will be set up in the turf practice area on the northeast side of Top Taggart Field and be part of the day's activities. The kids area will be sponsored by Sgt. Shawn Fries and the National Guard and feature such things as a mechanical rock wall, inflatable obstacle course and throwing contests.
Tickets will be available at the gate or for more information,
please contact the FSU Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888. FSU tickets
can also be bought online at www.starticketsplus.com.
Tickets are $7 adults or $5 students (K-12), senior citizens and
