Big Rapids, Mich. - The second annual "Blues & BBQ"
Tailgate event will be held prior to Saturday's (Sept. 19)
Anchor-Bone Classic football rivalry matchup between Ferris State
and Grand Valley State.
The "Blues & BBQ" event, which will start at 4:30 p.m. (EDT)
and is organized by Ferris State University Student Government
along with FSU Dining Services, allows fans an opportunity to
enjoy some of the area's finest all-you-can-eat BBQ.
The first "Blues and BBQ" event took place in 2008 with the
mission to raise money for a scholarship for deserving students. In
order to raise the appropriate funds, the "Blues and BBQ" was born
to serve as an avenue to bring the campus and community closer
together by eating fantastic barbeque and listening to blues.
Spectators will be able to enjoy the barbeque and listen to music
provided by renowed Grand Rapids blues artist Big Daddy and the
Krewe during Saturday's tailgate. The event will take place
in tents located within the main parking lot near the Top
Taggart Field entrance.
Admission for the "Blues & BBQ" tailgate event, which is
seperate from the actual game ticket, will be $8 for Ferris
students and $10 for adults. Children ages 10 and younger will be
admitted free. Patrons can also receive a dollar off the tailgate
admission charge by bringing a non-perishable food item.
All food will be donated to the local food pantry and all proceeds raised will benefit the Scholastic Leadership Award Scholarship Fund for students demonstrating financial need. Before the game, fans in attendance will be able to enjoy the all-you-can eat BBQ and vote on the best barbeque. Donation boxes will be at located at participating tables and whichever barbeque team raises the most money will be crowned the "People's Champion" and win hundreds in prizes.
