Big Rapids, Mich. - The FSU Gridiron Club hosted its 2009 "Freshman
Picnic" to help welcome incoming football players to campus on
Wednesday (Aug. 5) evening at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big
Rapids, Mich.
In addition to the players, various community and club members along with families were in attendance. The event was sponsored by the Gridiron Club.
The FSU coaching staff and incoming players were introduced to the public at the picnic. After the introductions, the FSU Gridiron Club members and school administrators met with the parents in attendance to cover a variety of topics on the upcoming season while the incoming freshmen spent time meeting with team coaches.
The incoming players reported to fall camp on Wednesday (Aug. 5) morning for check-in and physicals prior to the picnic and meeting. Veterans players reported Thursday (Aug. 6) morning with testing and meetings set for the first day of camp. The first practice is slated to be held on Friday (Aug. 7) morning at 10 a.m. (EDT) following additional testing.
Ferris State will kickoff its 101st season of varsity
competition Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Tiffin (Ohio) Dragons in
a 7 p.m. (EDT) non-conference contest at Top Taggart Field. The
game will take place during FSU "Welcome Week" activities and be
part of a true "Community Football Day" atmosphere as Big Rapids
High School will also open its 2009 season versus Holton earlier in
the day (2:30 p.m.) in the same facility and a rocket football
contest will be part of the FSU halftime events.
The Bulldogs were chosen earlier this week to finish seventh in the
2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)
Preseason Coaches Poll. Earlier this summer, FSU was
mentioned as one of the region's "Teams To Watch" in the 2009
Sporting News College Football Yearbook.
