FSU 20th In Learfield Directors' Cup Standings

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University currently ranks 20th
nationally of more than 230 NCAA Division II institutions in the
first Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings of the fall 2011-12
campaign.
The Bulldogs totaled 66 points by virtue of their eighth-place
national meet finish in women's cross country and are among three
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schools in
the top 20 nationally along with Grand Valley State and
Ashland.
Western State College (Colo.) presently ranks first nationally
with a high of 190.00 points while Augustana (S.D.) is close behind
with 172.00 points. Another Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
member, Adams State (Colo.), is tied for third place along with
Grand Valley State, the defending Learfield Sports Directors’
Cup Champions. Rounding out the top five is Chico State (Calif.)
with 149.00 points.
To date, three fall NCAA championships have been completed with
the following institutions capturing titles: women’s cross
country – Augustana (S.D.); men’s cross country –
Western State (Colo.); field hockey - West Chester (Pa.).
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint
effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of
Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each
institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women’s and
seven men’s. The next Division II fall standings will be
released Thursday, December 8.
