Big Rapids - - The "Bulldog Athletics Blog", which debuted this past year on the Ferris State University Athletics Website, has underwent a complete redesign and was recently relaunched at http://ferrisstateathleticsblog.blogspot.com.
The blog, which is produced by local journalist Sandy Gholston, gives Ferris State fans across the world an opportunity to keep up with all the action in Bulldog Athletics. It can also be found by clicking on the "Bulldog Athletics Blog" icon at www.ferris.edu/sports.
With the relaunch, the blog now has a different look, but maintains the various links for each sport. In addition, it will now feature expanded content such as league happenings, occasional video clips and a fan poll. The new site will also allow for more timely coverage of Bulldog Athletics and more interaction from fans, who are encouraged to post comments and leave remarks.
An award-winning reporter and a current marketing specialist within FSU's University Advancement and Marketing Division, Gholston will continue to keep fans up-to-date throughout the year with periodic blogs, opinions, features and recaps of various teams, games and events. He'll also correspond with photos from the action as the Bulldogs compete over the course of the season. Gholston offers an insider's view and provides both the content and management for the site.
Gholston previously served as a sports reporter and assistant sports editor for the Big Rapids Pioneer prior to his appointment at FSU. A native of Detroit, Mich., Gholston has covered Ferris State athletics for more than 13 years. He started covering Bulldog athletic events as an undergraduate student at FSU in 1996, working as a sports reporter for the campus' student newspaper, The Torch.
Gholston began his career in May 1997 with The Pioneer. In that time, he won several awards for his coverage of FSU Athletics including a first-place Associated Press Award for "Sustained Coverage of a Single Sports Event" in his reporting on the tragic death of a Ferris State Football student-athlete in the fall of 2002. In addition, he also received the 2003 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Media Service Award and the 2002 United States Tennis Association's Fred Burns Journalism Award for his coverage of Ferris State Athletics along with being a finalist for the 2004-05 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Grant Burger Media Award after being chosen as the national recipient in the print journalism category.
Gholston has also been active in the community, serving as a co-head coach of the Reed City (Mich.) eighth grade boys' basketball team along with officiating at Ferris State summer basketball camps.
