Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University student-athletes
recently gathered to celebrate the start of a new year as the FSU
Athletics Department held a social night last Tuesday (Aug. 31) at
CK's Place located south of campus.
The evening activities included a seminar orientation meeting for
selected teams along with a bean bag toss tournament that
included student-athletes from all of FSU's 15 varsity athletics
programs.
The event, which was organized and ran by FSU Associate Athletics
Director Jon Coles, started off indoors with a
seminar conducted by various staff members. It covered a
variety of topics, including compliance, academic requirements,
introductions and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
initiatives.
Interim Athletics Director Keri Becker reviewed
NCAA compliance issues as student-athletes filled out pertinent
documents. Additionally, head trainer Dave
Lucey spoke about medical-related information and training
room regulations. FSU Faculty Athletics Representative
Terry Nerbonne was also on hand and discussed his
role and the assistance he provides in regards to educational
issues.
Following the short seminar, the event moved outside for food,
music, lawn games and a meet & greet with other teams.
The first annual "Bulldog Bags" bean bag toss tourney was held and
featuerd student-athletes from various teams paired up together for
the event. Dinner was provided by CK's Place, which is owned
by local businessman Colin Kelly.
A large number of FSU head coaches and staff members were also on
hand for the evening activities.
Two teams were officially crowned as co-champions as the
"Beauties" team and Team "Domination" met in the finals, which took
place after dark.
The "Beauties" team consisted of FSU hockey players Mike
Embach, Chad Billins and Scott Wietecha
along with women's soccer player Carlee Boyle.
Meanwhile, members of Team "Domination" were football player
Jordan Morgan, women's basketball player
Kylie Muntz, men's basketball player Tyler
Dwyer and Lainee Clay of the FSU softball
squad.
