Ferris State Athletics Department Intern Lands Position With Cleveland Cavaliers
Alica Thomas (Greenville), a current Ferris State University student and an intern with the FSU Athletics Department, recently accepted a full-time position with the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Cleveland Cavaliers.
Thomas, who will graduate this May 2010 with a bachelors degree in advertising, will be an account executive in the Cavaliers' sales department. She will not only represent the Cavaliers but also the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL) and Quicken Loans Arena, the home arena for both the Cavaliers and Monsters.
"Alicia is a mature, bright, driven, and personable young woman who will make a lasting impression on the industry and I look forward to following her career," said FSU Associate Athletics Director Jon Coles. "We want to thank Alicia for her commitment to Ferris State Athletics over the past four years and wish her the best. She will be missed."
A 2005 graduate of Greenville (Mich.) High School, Thomas played varsity tennis for the Yellow Jackets. She continues to be involved in tennis and biking recreationally in college.
At Ferris State, Thomas began her association with collegiate athletics four years ago as a work study student. She has served as the game day producer for football and men's ice hockey at FSU with the responsibilities of playing music along with coordinating promotions, band, cheerleaders, dance team, and etc.
This past summer of 2009, Thomas was an advertising account intern for the Bulldog Athletics Department and played a significant role in helping the department increase its revenue by $65,000.
Thomas also developed and implemented the Bulldog Pups, a spirit group for the various FSU Athletics teams which debuted this 2009-10 season.
