#7 Ferris State Earns Day One Split At Colorado Premier Challenge

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally seventh-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad earned a day one split at the prestigious Colorado Premier Challenge on Friday (Sept. 12) in Denver, Colo.

The Bulldogs fell to West Florida 3-0 in the opening match of the event, but came back to beat host Regis in a 3-0 sweep in afternoon play.

In the opener, West Florida took a 25-20, 25-22, 25-17 triumph over the Bulldogs. The Argonauts limited FSU to a .157 attack percentage for the match.

Ferris State was led by sophomore Gabby Piazza with 15 kills in the setback. Emily May added nine kills while Hayley Wegener totaled 31 assists. Both Hope Davies and Jasmine Wellet produced seven digs each.

The Bulldogs notched 36 kills in the match to go with 20 attack errors on 102 attempts. FSU also netted 36 digs to go with two service aces and six block assists. UWF, which hit .221 overall, compiled 39 kills and 16 attack mistakes on 104 tries in addition to adding 37 digs, six aces and eight block assists in addition to four solo blocks.

FSU bounced back in match two by beating Regis 25-21, 25-22 and 25-18.

In the victory over Regis, May produced 11 kills and Piazza had 10 for the Bulldogs. Wegener posted 30 assists and Wellet notched 12 digs. Ferris State produced a .220 attack figure with 43 kills and only 19 attack errors on 109 tries.

The Bulldogs also got three aces to go with two solo blocks and eight assisted efforts at the net.

Ferris State is one of 12 schools taking part in the two-day event, which is held on both the campuses of Regis University and the Metropolitan State University of Denver.

The Bulldogs are slated to play two additional matches to close out the event on Saturday (Sept. 13). Official matchups and pairings for Saturday's play will be announced soon.
