#5 Ferris State Suffers First Setback Of Year To #7 UCO; Closes Weekend With 3-1 Mark
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad closed out its season-opening trip to Texas with a 3-0 setback to seventh-ranked Central Oklahoma in a top 10 tilt on Saturday (Sept. 6) in Tyler, Texas.
The Bronchos took the opening frame over #5 FSU by a 25-21 score and then earned the victory by beating the Bulldogs 25-16 in the second set and 25-21 in the third.
Ferris State closed the opening weekend with a 3-1 overall record.
In Saturday's setback, the Bulldogs were limited to a .113 attack percentage with 39 kills and 21 attack errors on 160 attempts. FSU did finish with 73 digs and had a single service aces and both two solo and two assisted blocks.
Sophomore Gabby Piazza led Ferris State with 16 kills and Emily May finished with 10 kills. FSU also got 31 assists and 20 digs from Hayley Wegener. Jasmine Wellet added 16 digs and Emma Bleecher finished with nine digs overall.
Central Oklahoma hit .208 for the day with 44 kills and only 14 attack errors on 144 tries. UCO also had 83 digs to go with three solo blocks, three service aces and two assisted blocks.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Sept. 12-13 at the Colorado Invitational in Denver. FSU first faces West Florida and Regis on Friday (Sept. 12) at 10 a.m. (ET) and 2 p.m. (ET), respectively.
