Ferris State Women's Tennis Inks Two Incoming Student-Athletes In 2015 Recruiting Class

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad, which has won nearly 20 matches this season, has continued to strengthen its lineup as head coach Chad Berryhill announced today a pair of incoming student-athletes as part of the 2015 recruiting class.

The Bulldogs have inked out-of-state signee Nicole Meylor (Wauwatosa, Wis.) along with Nika Hein (Nittel, Germany) and both will join the FSU program in the fall for the 2015-16 campaign.

"We're excited to build off the tremendous spring we've had with this recruiting class," said Berryhill. "Both of these student-athletes will bring talent to our program and help us continue to contend for league championships and postseason berths."

A product of Wauwatosa West High School, Meylor has played the number one singles positions each of the last four years on the prep level. The three-time team Most Valuable Player Award honoree is a three-star recruit and listed as the #2 player in the entire state of Wisconsin according to TennisRecruiting.net. Additionally, she's a three-time state qualifier and ranked among the top 350 players in the country.

Over the past three years, Meylor has improved her national ranking by more than 150 places and is presently also ranked among the top five overall in girls 18's in her home state. The talented prep signee also enjoys teaching tennis as well.

Meanwhile, Hein joins the Bulldogs as one of the top players from Germany where she has competed the last four years in the National Women's Team League in Luxembourg. Presently, she's ranked as the number one junior player and number two women's player overall in Luxembourg and holds a personal-best 420 women's ranking in Germany.

Hein was the winner of the youth team championship in her home city and was also part of the youth team state championship of Rhineland-Palatinate. She took first place at the regional championships in 2012 and 2013 while earning runner-up honors at the regional women's championship. Hein also reached the singles round of the last 16 as part of Tennis Europe (ETA) in both the Czech Republic and Luxembourg. She also advanced to the singles quarterfinal and was the doubles runner-up in Tennis Europe competition held in Aylesburg, England.

The Bulldogs currently own a 19-8 overall record this season and are awaiting the official announcement of the NCAA Division II Tournament selections slated to be announced next Tuesday (April 28) evening. FSU was ranked seventh in the most recent regional rankings.

This spring, Ferris State has presently won each of its last four contests and six of its final seven regular-season outings overall. The Bulldogs are 8-3 overall in spring competition on the heels of a 11-5 mark recorded in the fall.
