Ferris State Soccer Falls to Grand Valley State in GLIAC Opener in Allendale

Allendale, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team fell 2-1 to GLIAC rival Grand Valley State University on Friday night (Sept. 15) in its opening conference match of the season.

FSU (2-1-2) traveled to Allendale and faced the Lakers (3-1-1) to begin GLIAC play. GVSU scored the first goal of the game at 6:27 in the first half. GVSU's Emma Chudik beat FSU's starting goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei to the bottom corner, where the ball hit the post and bounced back across the net and in.

The Bulldogs answered back just minutes later when senior forward Payton Price maneuvered through the Laker defense and fired a shot towards the goal. Isabel Imes appeared to make the stop, but the ball bounced off a Laker defender and into the net, tying the game 1-1.

Neither team scored the rest of the first half, as GVSU tested Mosallaei with five first half shots, four of which she saved.

Both teams played strong defensively to start the second half, but it was the Lakers who tallied the game-winning goal in the 66th minute. Alli French found the lower right part of the goal to give the Lakers their second lead of the night.

The Bulldogs pressed forward and had two corner kick opportunities under one-minute remaining. However, Grand Valley State stood strong in the box and turned Ferris State away.

FSU attempted six shots in the game, none of which were on target. GVSU fired 16 shots, with eight of them on frame. Mosallaei saved six of the eight attempts.

Corner kicks were in favor of the Bulldogs 3-0 with two attempts coming in the final minute. FSU committed 12 fouls and GVSU had nine.

The Bulldogs will head to Caledonia to play Davenport on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 12 p.m. (ET) in the second GLIAC contest of the year. The Panthers have started 4-0, including a win in their first GLIAC contest against Saginaw Valley State.
