Ferris State Softball Earns Senior Day Sweep Over Parkside

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad celebrated Senior Day in a big way, sweeping Parkside on Saturday (April 25) at the FSU Softball Field.

The Bulldogs claimed a 7-4 win in the opener and recorded a 6-1 triumph in the finale to claim back-to-back wins over the Rangers in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

FSU celebrated its senior class of catcher Emily Killion, second baseman Jadyn Joseph and outfielder Abby Meyer as part of the league double dip.

In the opener, the Bulldogs put five runs on the board in the first inning and added two more in the second to grab a 7-0 lead. Parkside produced two runs in the fourth and two in the seventh, but could get no closer in the decision. FSU had 11 hits to nine for the Rangers.

Offensively, the Bulldogs' top half of the lineup had a big game as right fielder Ella McDonald, first baseman Alexis Kozlowski, left fielder Ava Gardner and third baseman Emma Herremans all had two hits apiece. Herremans drove in three runs and Gardner knocked in two. Both shortstop Jayden Marlatt and Killion also each had an RBI.

The Bulldogs got a trio of doubles off the bats of Gardner, Herremans and Killion in the win.

FSU's Cecelia Bell claimed the win, tossing six innings with only two earned runs allowed on six hits. She had 10 strikeouts and one walk. Addison Gillard tossed one inning, giving up two runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout.

In game two, Ferris State scored four times in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 edge and then added a run in the fourth and one more in the fifth to account for the final 6-1 score. FSU had five hits and allowed only three to UWP.

Killion had two hits and knocked home three runs in the victory. Emma Gillard had a hit and two RBI's while Herremans tallied a hit and drove in a run. Gardner had the other hit for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State's Katie Shuboy tossed all seven innings and gave up only one run on three hits with five strikeouts and a walk in her 10th win of the campaign.

The Bulldogs, who are now 27-18 overall and 13-7 in the GLIAC, will host Roosevelt in conference play on Sunday (April 26) starting at 1 p.m. (ET) for game one and 3 p.m. (ET) for game two.
