FSU Softball Closes Regular-Season With Split To Garner Third Seed For GLIAC Tourney

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team closed out Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season play with a split on Sunday (April 27) at Parkside in Kenosha, Wis.

The Bulldogs captured a 5-1 win in the opener, but fell to the Rangers by a 11-2 count in five innings in the final.

With the split, the Bulldogs wrapped up the regular-season with a 27-17 overall record to go with a 16-12 conference slate. FSU's 27 wins to date are the program's most in nine years.

In the opener, Ferris State scored three times in the opening inning and added two more runs in the third while holding UWP to a single run in its final at-bat in the seventh. The Bulldogs finished with a six-to-three edge in total hits.

Sophomore first baseman Alexis Kozlowski tallied three hits and an RBI in the opener while second baseman Jadyn Joseph managed two hits and scored twice. Senior third baseman Brooklyn Verbeek came up with a hit and Joseph doubled in the game.

Ferris State's Catherine O'Donohue tossed two innings and allowed a single hit and no runs with three walks. Ella Covill-Marter pitched five innings and gave up a single run on two hits with three walks and a strikeout for the win.

In game two, the Rangers bounced back and totaled 10 hits compared to seven for the Bulldogs. Parkside notched two runs in the second, three in the third and sixth in the fourth. FSU scored its only runs with a pair in the fifth, but it was not enough to keep the game going.

Both Joseph and Kozlowski had two hits each, including a double apiece, and both drove in a run. Outfielder Emma Gillard along with shortstop Bailey McCalister and right fielder Ella McDonald each managed a single hit.

The Bulldogs' Cecelia Bell threw two innings with two earned runs allowed on four hits to go with two strikeouts and a walk. O'Donohue tossed a single inning, giving up four runs on three hits with a strikeout while Covill-Marter also pitched for an inning and surrendered five runs on three hits with two walks and a K.

Ferris State finished as the third seed overall for the conference tournament and will face sixth-seeded Roosevelt on Thursday (May 1) at 2:30 p.m. (ET) in the league tournament at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Ill. The league tourney runs Thursday thru Sunday (May 1-4).
