SWEEP! Ferris State Softball Beats Davenport Twice In Home Doubleheader

Big Rapids, Much. - The Ferris State University softball squad claimed a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home sweep over Davenport on Wednesday (April 16), beating the Panthers by scores of 14-6 and 1-0 in league action at the FSU Softball Field.

The Bulldogs fell behind 6-0 in the opener, but responded with three runs in the second and eight more in the third followed by three in the fourth to put the game away. FSU had 17 hits to only four for DU.

Offensively, second baseman Jadyn Joseph produced three hits for the Bulldogs and drove in two runs with two runs scored. First baseman Alexis Kozlowski had a team-high four RBI's and came up with two hits. The Bulldogs also got two hits each from designated player Abby Meyer along with catcher Emily Killion, outfielders Emma Gillard and Maddie Gkekas, shortstop Bailey McCalister and right fielder Breanna Blair.

Both Blair and Meyer also drove in two runs for FSU while Killon, Gkekas and McCalister all had a double. Kozlowski homered and the trio of Joseph, Gillard and Blair all had triples in the win.

FSU's Ella Covill-Marter garnered the win, allowing only two earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts and three walks in four innings of relief action. Catherine O'Donohue tossed one inning, giving up two runs on two hits with two walks and a strikeout.

In game two, Davenport produced seven hits and allowed only three to FSU, but the Bulldogs scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the first. Ferris State's Cecilia Bell claimed her eighth win of the campaign with a complete-game shutout, allowing no runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and a walk.

McCalister drove in the game's only run for the Bulldogs and had a hit along with Meyer and right fielder Riley Kish.

With the two wins, the Bulldogs are now 23-13 overall this year and 12-8 in conference play. FSU also sits tied for second place overall in the GLIAC and the Bulldogs are featured among the region's top 10 teams in the initial NCAA Division II Regional Rankings this week.

The Bulldogs' scheduled final home games of the year on Friday versus Wayne State have been moved to Tuesday (April 22) starting at 3 p.m. (ET) due to expected weather conditions. It will also mark FSU's annual Senior Day with the Bulldogs slated to honor their 2025 seniors as part of the final home doubleheader.
