Ferris State Completes Unbeaten Weekend With Two Wins Over Parkside

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team closed out a weekend home sweep on Sunday (April 6), topping Parkside by scores of 10-4 in the opener and 4-2 in the nightcap at the FSU Softball Field.

The two wins followed a Saturday sweep over Roosevelt as FSU stretched its current winning streak to four consecutive contests.

In the opener, Ferris State recorded 13 hits and limited UWP to six hits in the triumph. Junior Catherine O'Donohue earned the win in the circle, notching her eighth victory of the campaign by giving up only three earned runs and posting eight strikeouts with only two walks in the complete game effort.

Parkside opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first, but FSU responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame. The Bulldogs added a run in the second and two more in the third to build a 6-1 edge before the Rangers trimmed the margin back to 6-4 in the fifth. However, the Bulldogs finished with a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to come away with the win.

Designated player Emily Killion had three hits and produced three RBI's for the Bulldogs, who also got three hits and two RBI's from shortstop Bailey McCalister. Senior third baseman Brooklyn Verbeek drove in two runs with two hits and second baseman Jadyn Joseph notched a pair of hits in the game.

The Bulldogs got doubles from Joseph and first baseman Alexis Kozlowski along with two from McCalister. Kozlowski, Addison Wangler and O'Donohue all notched an RBI as well.

In game two, Ferris State again fell behind 1-0, but answered with two runs in the second and two more in the fourth for a 4-1 lead. UWP trimmed the margin to 4-2 in the sixth and had the bases loaded before the Bulldogs closed the door and finished off the win despite being outhit by a 6-5 total.

Killion had two hits, including a double, and scored twice while Verbeek knocked in two runs and finished with two hits. Outfielder Emma Gillard recorded the other Bulldog hit in the game and O'Donohue earned an RBI.

In the circle, Cecelia Bell claimed the win, tossing six innings with only two earned runs allowed on six hits. She posted three strikeouts and finished with three walks. O'Donohue came on in relief and earned the save with a strikeout and no hits or runs allowed in one inning of work.

The Bulldogs climbed into second place in the league standings with the four weekend wins and now hold a 19-11 overall record along with an 8-6 conference mark this year.

FSU will host Davenport on Wednesday (April 9) in Big Rapids starting at 2 p.m. (ET) for game one with game two scheduled to follow at 4 p.m. (ET).
