Bulldog Softball Sweeps Roosevelt In GLIAC Home Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad earned a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home sweep over league newcomer Roosevelt University on Saturday (April 5), posting a pair of wins at the FSU Softball Field in Big Rapids.
The Bulldogs took game one by a 7-1 score and closed out the sweep with a 4-1 triumph over the Lakers in game two, beating RU twice in its first-ever trip to face FSU.
With the two wins, the Bulldogs are now 17-11 overall this year and evened their GLIAC mark at 6-6 on the season.
Ferris State put up nine hits in the opening game and limited Roosevelt to only five. After both teams scored a single run in the first, the Bulldogs broke the deadlock with four runs in the third and added single runs in both the fifth and sixth innings while keeping the Lakers off the board in their final six at-bats.
Outfielder Emma Gillard and shortstop Bailey McCalister both notched two hits in the victory. McCalister drove in a game-best three runs and had one of FSU's two doubles along with catcher Emily Killion. Meanwhile, Gillard tripled and produced a run as did Alexis Kozlowski, Addison Wangler and Killion.
FSU also stole five bases in the game.
In the circle, junior Catherine O'Donohue claimed her seventh win of the year, giving up a single run on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.
In game two, Ferris State broke a scoreless deadlock with two runs in the third and pushed the margin to 4-0 with two more in the fifth. Roosevelt finished with only three hits and got a solo homer in the sixth for its lone runs of the outing. The Bulldogs netted six hits in the victory.
Kozlowski had two hits for the Bulldogs and scored twice to go with a double in the triumph. Gillard also doubled and drove in a run while Killion notched an RBI.
FSU's Ella Covill-Marter recorded her sixth win of the campaign, limiting the Lakers to only a single earned run and three hits in the complete game effort. She posted two strikeouts and walked two for the Bulldogs.
Ferris State will host Parkside on Sunday (April 6) at the FSU Softball Field starting at 1 p.m. (ET) for the opener and 3 p.m. (ET) for game two.
